About Me

My Several Worlds is about the different worlds that I inhabit. I love Taiwan. I love Canada. I love Asia. I try to straddle all these worlds of mine and learn from my experiences.
I know I’m not the first Westerner to be hypnotised by Asia. The diversity. The beauty. The scintillating colors. The smells. The allure of 5000 years of civilization. The ever changing faces of Asia from dirt poor villages to ancient capitals and gleaming modern cities. It’s all utterly captivating. Being a direct observer and participant over the past four years has really opened my eyes to the differences and beauty between all cultures and the wonderful diversity that exists in this world.
These paths I’ve journeyed on have been magical. I have been truly free to map my own course. This means freedom to me of an almost undefinable nature. I am free to explore, dream and conquer anything my heart desires. This is what moving to Asia has given me. This is what My Several Worlds is about.
My Several Worlds documents my world of travel and teaching, fun and adventure. Come find out for yourself. Welcome to My Several Worlds.

John and I fit together like pieces to a puzzle. He’s my best friend and confidant; my other half. He’s the one I share my hopes and dreams with. I am constantly delighted and moved by the many different ways he takes care of me.
John’s abilities are completely opposite to mine and I think that’s why we fit together so well. He’s a gifted athlete and loves to participate as well as spectate. He’s also tremendously skilled in math, business and computers, with natural confidence and ability in navigational and mechanical skills. He honed these skills while in university and graduated with a degree in International Business. Upon graduation, he left to work in an Internship Program with FAW in Changchun, China. It was under these circumstances that we were able to find each other in North East China. We met through a mutual friend by chance and fell in love. It is a mystery to me that we were able to find each other on the other side of the world. I have finally found someone to share my dreams with. We fit together like two peas in a pod. We want to travel and see everything that this big wonderful world has to offer.
I really admire John’s ability to get us where we need to go when we need to go. He’s a genius at mapping things out and he does it quickly and efficiently. His navigational skills never fail to impress me. I swear he has a personal GPS system buried in that big beautiful brain of his. Personally, I think he dreams in landscapes, but he says he doesn’t dream. He’s also a motorcyle enthusiast and we spend a lot of time on the bike, exploring the island of Taiwan. Most of our travels throughout Asia have been by motorcycle. It’s a great way to travel and one that I would certainly never do on my own. If the planning were left up to me, I’d have us going around in circles and doubling back half the time. So, my job is to provide the occasional map direction, cultural input, historical background, and of course, to entertain you all. Really though, this blog wouldn’t even exist without him. He is such a big part of it.
We are currently living and teaching in Taipei, Taiwan and are engaged to be married in November 2008.

Your experinces and tips may come in handy for him later. Thanks!

Hi Claude,
I’ll be sure to look you up on face book. I’m glad you’re enjoying the Valley. What a change! When I read your message yesterday, I couldn’t help thinking back to the good old days at Sassy. I miss your daily visits.
Then I got to thinking about Justin as well. I can’t believe it’s been that long. I’m glad to hear he’s at Nippissing…not too far from our stomping grounds. Please pass on my email if he has any questions about living and teaching in Asia. I’d be happy to help!
)))HUGS(((

Love your site!…and then I realized you were from Ottawa (by the sounds of it anyway?) How crazy, me too! Anyhow, very interesting site and some great photography. Stay safe and enjoy your travels!
“Most of our travels throughout Asia have been by motorcycle. It’s a great way to travel and one that I would certainly never do on my own. ”
– This one stuck to me. If you happen to be in the Philippines during one of those adventures, visit my hometown Dumaguete City. It’s known for motorcycles. People decide not to drive cars there. They have motorcycles instead. So you can rent one easily and go around the beautiful island of Negros.
Now I sound like a travel brochure. Tsk tsk.
Anyhow, I love your blog. Love it to bits. I find the way you write about Asian culture sensitive, sincere, and earnest. Hope this goes on and on…
oh and by the way, you and your fiance look perfect together. your love story is soooo romantic. i wish you all the best in november next year.
i thought that pix was anime .. beautiful
